We want to help secure your personal information.

That’s why we are requiring that all students implement 2-step authentication, which will add a layer of security to your account.

By following the instructions below, you can configure your account with 2-step authentication, which is the multi-factor authentication (MFA) setup that we are using.

Preferred Method – Using text message or phone for 2-step authentication

Text Messaging or phone verification is the preferred 2-step process. Follow the steps below:

  1. After logging in, you will see a prompt screen that says “More information required,” click “Next”.
  2. Next, you will see a screen that says “Additional security verification screen.” Click the down arrow and select “Authentication phone.” On the box, drop down to United States (+1) which is at the top of the list. Please input your personal phone number including the area code and in the method box you can select “send me a code by text message” or “call me” and click “Next.”
  3. Once you’ve received the verification text code (six digits) on your phone, enter them on this page and click “Verify”.
  4. Once the verification is successful, click on Done. This may take a moment. You may be prompted to change your password.
  5. Once registered, you will only need to reverify every 30 days, or if you change your computer, browser, or clear your cookies when you enter Puma Den or D2L.

Secondary Method — Downloading the Microsoft Authenticator App

To get started, go to your app store and look for the free Microsoft Authenticator app. Here’s what the app icon will look like (the padlock icon) on the two main app stores.

Download on Google Play or the Apple App Store

Download the app. Now you’re ready to begin configuring your account!

  1. When you first open either the PUMA Den or Outlook from your mobile device, you will be prompted to add additional security verification. Select Mobile App under Step 1: How should we contact you?
  2. Select “Receive notifications” for verification from the How do you want to use the mobile app area, and then select “Set up.”
  3. The Configure mobile app page will appear. Look for your unique QR code on your screen and take a screenshot of it. This will go into your phone’s image gallery. Then scan the QR code.

Using Google Lens is easy with an Android device. Some phones may even have Google Lens featured in their Gallery app.

    • Download Google Lens right from the Android app store, Play Store.
    • Select the photo containing the QR code.
    • Wait for Google Lens to read the code and show the results.
How to Scan QR Codes from an Image on an iOS (Apple) Device ^
    • Download the Google App
    • Open the Google app and tap on the Lens icon in the search bar
    • When the Google Lens screen appears, select the photo containing the QR code.
    • Wait for Google Lens to read the code and show the results.
  4. Go to your smart device, open the Microsoft Authenticator app, select “Add account” from the customized menu and control icon in the upper-right, and then select “School account.”

Note: If you receive a prompt asking whether to allow the app to access your camera (iOS) or to allow the app to take pictures and record video (Android), select “Allow” so the authenticator app can access your camera to take picture of QR code in next step.
  5. Use your device’s camera to scan the QR code from the “Configure mobile app” screen on computer, and then choose “Next.”
  6. From your phone or tablet, you’ll see the “Additional security verification page.” Make sure you get the message that says your configuration was successful, and then select “Next.” The authenticator app will send a notification to your mobile device as a test.
  7. On your smart device, select “Approve.”
  8. Add your phone number to the “Step 3: In case you lose access to the mobile app” area, and then select “Next.” Microsoft recommends adding your phone number to act as a backup if you’re unable to use the mobile app for any reason.
  9. Select “Done.”
